KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain Saturday asked the medical practitioners in the country to continuously update their professional knowledge in order to serve the people in an effective manner and also serve in the rural areas.
He was speaking as chief guest at the annual conference of the Pakistan Society of Neurophysicians at the local hotel here.
The President welcomed the delegates at the moot especially those came from abroad and for apprising participants of the new trends in the profession.
He said that it is his desire that such programmes should continue and be expanded so that medical practitioners especially the youngesters be able to better serve the masses.
Pakistan is undertaking serious efforts for the elimination of polio from the country, the President said adding that this problem has arisen because of regional situation.
He said that international community should adopt a favourable approach towards Pakistan for its efforts for the elimination of the crippling disease.
The President in this regard also appreciated the efforts of the Liaquat National Hospital and Professor Salman Sharif and Professor Salman Faridi, besides Prof Shabbir Lehri, President Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons.
Such conferences not only contribute towards dissemination of further knowledge but also bring new trends to the fore in the realms of research, the President noted.
He called for provision of required knowledge to the people in simple language to apprise them about importance of health and hygiene thus promote healthy living.
He said that participation of delegates in such august conferences and gatherings result in better exchange of knowledge and expertise.
Emphasising the holding of such events, the President said that these be organised from time to time.
The President said that after successfully overcoming difficulties, the country has made headway and is now in a “take off position”.
He pointed out that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to ably perform his and her duty to help foster economic progress and stability in the country so that the problems of the people could be resolved.
The President stated that owing to the bold decisions of the government and the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces, the back of the terrorists has been broken and complete peace would soon be restored in all parts of the country including Karachi. The effects of these have already started emerging, he added.
He made it clear that the drive against terrorism, militancy and lawlessness would continue till cleansing the country of such ills.
He also urged the female doctors to acquire more and more knowledge in their respective fields.
President Mamnoon also mentioned the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the projects in the energy sector.
The President welcomed Professor Edward Benzel, Chief of Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic, Professor Yoko Kato, President Asian Congress of Neurosurgeons for participating in the conference.
