Sharjah: England have been set a target of 284 to win the third and final Test and level the three-match series after dismissing Pakistan for 355 in their second innings in Sharjah .
Pakistan, who lead the series 1-0 following a 178-run win in the second Test in Dubai, were indebted to a fine 151 by opener Mohammad Hafeez on Wednesday’s fourth day at Sharjah stadium.
Earlier, opener Hafeez scored his ninth Test century.
Hafeez, 97 overnight, made 151 with 15 fours and three sixes off 266 balls before finally holing out in the deep.
England rued two crucial lapses, the first coming before Pakistan had added to their overnight score. Jonny Bairstow couldn’t stump Hafeez in the first over and then, on 113, Stuart Broad grassed a low caught-and-bowled chance.
Hafeez went on to add 93 runs with captain Misbah-ul-Haq (38), and James Anderson capped England’s poor show in the field when he dropped Shafiq just before tea.
