WEB DESK: Salman Khan’s “Prem Ratan Dahn Payo”, released on 12 November , just a day after the Indian festival of Diwali had an earth shattering opening breaking numerous records at the Box Office. It is considered as the biggest opener of 2015 for the Bollywood industry as well as for Salman khan.
DNA India reported that PRDP has not only recorded Salman’s highest opening day record but has also broken his previous best with Bajrangi Bhaijaan. His earlier film has recorded a Rs 38 crore collection on its first Sunday, which was the highest single day collection for any Salman film. This one has also shattered all the pre-existing records, when it comes to Salman.
But unfortunately, this blockbuster failed to beat Shahrukh’s Happy New Year which was released last year on the same occasion.
As per the official figures, PRDP has collected Rs.40.35 crore in Hindi version only. On the contrary Shahrukh Khan made a business of Rs.42.62 crore in Hindi on the very first day. So PRDP has fallen short of around 2 crore from becoming the highest opener ever, DNA India reported.
PRDP could not beat Happy New Year record because the film was hit hard by low occupancy in late night shows especially after 10:30-11:00 since a three hour long film meant a 2 am closure and the next day was a working day. The movie was also affected in South by Thala’s Vedalam, a Tamil movie which is doing record breaking business there.
