WEB DESK: Atleast twenty people died and more than 115 others were reported injured when a train leaving from Quetta derailed near Abegum area of Mach district, Aaj News reported.
The driver, his assistant and two police personnel are among the dead.The injured are being shifted to Machh Civil Hospital for treatment, said Levies sources.
The Jaffer Express left for Quetta early morning and was on its way to Rawalpindi when the accident happened.
Rescue workers have reached the crash site and are trying to clear the debris and pull out people trapped inside.
According to the railway officials, the accident occurred when the breaks failed and the engine and 10 bogies overturned.
Two MI helicopters of Pakistan army have also been sent to the site.
While talking to Aaj News,Minister Railways Saad Rafique said,”The train accident will be carefully investigated.”
Expressing grief over the tragic incident Rafique added that 103 injured have been shifted to Macch Hospital however the severely injured are being transferred to Quetta via helicopters.
He further added that security has been tightened in sensitive zones.
