PERTH: Unbeaten Michael Hussey scores 82 runs helping Sydney Thunders to snatch their first win in Big Bash League season five by 26 runs against Sydney Sixers in the first derby of the season. Man of the match goes to Mr. Cricket.
Earlier, the day started on a bright note with firecrackers all around the park. Thunder won the toss and elected to bat first. Jacque Kallis and Aiden Blizzard came to bat but on the last ball of the second over Thunders lost their first wicket of Blizzard (12 runs) at the score of 18/1 after 2 overs.
Captain Michael Hussey joined Jacque Kallis and they bat steadily with good strike rates and they were 42/1 after powerplay. Thunder lost Kallis(15 runs) on 7.2 overs then Watson came in but Thunders lost his wicket on 10.2 overs as well.
Hussey typically played his innings till the end and remain unbeaten at 82 runs in just 60 balls on a bouncy pitch where ball is not coming on the bat easily. No bowler from Sixers side bowled exceptionally well. Sydney Thunders ended up on 158 for 4.
Chasing 159 was not easy for Sixers on a bouncy pitch against the likes of McKay, Andre Russel and experienced like Kallis and Watson.
Sydney Thunders had a shaky start but openers kept on saving their wickets but Andre Russell bowled a wicket maiden 4rth over and shifted the momentum towards Thunder.
Thunders kept fighting but they did not get any chance to build big partnerships and at the end of 10th over they were 68/3.
Other than Michael Lumb(34 runs) no one step out for Sixers and they were all out on 122 in 19.5 overs.Andre Russell bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets for his side.
