KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Transport Mumtaz Jakhrani on Wednesday said work on 4.7 km Bus Rapid Transit system (BRTs) Orange Line has started and it would be completed by the end of next year, Aaj News website reported.
“There are four BRTs lines in the pipeline, which would have an integrated system, which has never been witnessed by Pakistan ever,” he said while addressing a press briefing regarding inauguration of first phase of Orange Line, relocation of utility lines, at Jinnah University for Women.
He said Orange Line would start from Nazimabad, Board Office Chowrangi, to Orangi Town, TMA office.
Jakhrani said federal government funded Green Line, 17 km, would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif next month and the gift of both the BRTs lines would be presented to Karachiites by end 2016.
“Utility relocation work on Orange Line has started. The Sindh government is implementing the project from its own resources,” he said.
Secretary Transport Taha Farooqui and Project Director BRTs Fazal Karim Khatri were also present on the occasion.
