In the global village world where every other person is connected in some context or the other with each other through WWW (World Wide Web), a part of international network, which is even more vast in itself and posses many hidden things that are unreachable for almost more than half of the unaware world population.
Nowadays, internet is vastly used for information gathering, or for surfing virtual world accessibilities which facilitate you in everyday life. For instance, surfing social media website, online gaming websites, web pages or any content as per your desired index through search engines on internet dwells in visible web or surface web.
The surface web seems huge to us, while at the other side there lies way bigger part of the Web which is 400 to 500 times bigger than visible web. It is not indexed and cannot be surfed by commonalities and that segment of the web which comes under the common surface of web is called “Deep Web”.
Deep web is the world behind firewall. It contains all the data in it such as ID’s, passwords, information data bases, and web archives which is normally not accessible in normal condition. There are some special hidden service protocol which are easily available like TOR(the onion) web browser or Linux operating system which is commonly assumed to have no graphic user interface but it has.
All the anonymously hosted websites within a deep web fall in “dark web”. Dark web is now considered to be the largest hidden market place for hiring or purchasing illegal workers and selling illegal products. It forms a complete industry.
The most running market in dark web is Silk Road which was founded in 2011. it is like a platform where seller meets purchasers via internet as Amazon works in visible web. The currency used for making deals is bit coin (virtual currency) which used in visible web as well for online dealing.
According to FBI, the marketplace of Silk Road had accumulated 1,400 vendors, 957,079 registered users, and had brokered more than 1.2 million transactions worth $214 million. But somehow it was shut downed in 2013.
After the demise of Silk Road many other same formatted service providing illicit market places like Agora, Alphabay etc emerged which are still expanding their roots and business firmly. According to the study by Carnegie Melon, the anonymous marketplace ecosystem does in excess of $500,000 a day.
