MULTAN/ KARACHI: Results of third phase of polling for local government elections held in twelve districts of Punjab and six districts of Karachi have started pouring in.
Initial trends indicate that Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) is leading in Punjab while in Karachi Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is leading in the count.
Voters in large numbers cast their votes, and those present in the premises of polling stations at the closing hour were allowed to exercise to cast their right of vote.
Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan and Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqub visited different polling stations in Rawalpindi and expressed satisfaction over the smooth polling process.
Polling remained peaceful in six districts of Karachi division also.
Inspector General Sindh police Ghulam Haider Jamali told newsmen after visiting various polling stations in Karachi, that law enforcement agencies remained alert to respond to any untoward incident.
Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar also visited a number of polling stations in Karachi.
Talking to newsmen on the occasion, he expressed satisfaction over the security measures.
The ECP has received 185 complaints from Punjab and Sindh regarding irregularities.
A spokesperson of the Election Commission said 143 complaints were received from Punjab and 42 from Sindh.
