Mahira Khan would be offered a role in Bollywood was something her fans were prepared for. But that she would star next to King Khan, was something that took the media by a storm.
Perhaps, this was her biggest achievement this year. Her upcoming movie Raees with Shahrukh Khan made headlines across the border.
Mahira had already become a household name in India after her blockbuster play Humsafar was aired on an Indian television channel this year.
Her other movie ‘Bin Roye’ became quite a sensation in Pakistan where cinemas were packed to housefuls. Though the movie did not get great reviews by critics—it received popular support and did good business.
In Pakistan Bin Roye held its ground against India’s block buster hit Bajrangi Bhaijan starring super star Salman Khan in terms of attracting viewership. It became the third highest grossing movie after ‘Waar’ and ‘Yeh Jawani Phir nhe ani’ in Pakistan.
According to Nadeem Mandviwala, Bajrangi led the way, collecting Rs3.2 million in the first week, with Bin Roye scraped in about Rs2.8 million and Wrong Number making Rs2.7m in Mandviwala-owned cinemas in Karachi and Islamabad, according to a daily newspaper.
According to Capri Cinema’s director, the two films screened have collected approximately Rs4 million with Rs2.5 million shared by Bajrangi and Rs1.5 million by Bin Roye.
The movie became the first Pakistani movie to be released in India on as many as 81 screens making it arguably the largest release ever for a Pakistani movie in India.
She stayed in the news for the promotion of her upcoming movie Ho Man Jahan—where that lead team introduced a Dubsmash competition for the fun song Shakar Wandan.
On the small screen her lovable character Shanno for Sadqey Tumharay won her the best actor female for the Hum TV awards.
This year Mahira also officially joined Instagram and scooped 67.7k followers in a day.
This was not all, Mahira became the only Pakistani actress who made it to the top 10 Sexiest Asian Women of this year list, along with Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.
As if managing the stardom was not enough, she became a part of Shaukat Khanum Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2015 along with singer Hadiqa Kiyani and other media personalities in Lahore.
A glitch in her otherwise awesome year took place when her Halloween costume was blown out of proportion by Indian media. But, she gracefully shook off the damage by politely tweeting an apology for hurting Indian audience’s sentiments.
You can say she had a heck of a year!
