WEB DESK: Summoning Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Aviation Shujaat Azim in person on January 11 in a contempt case, the Supreme Court barred him from working till the next date of hearing.
Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi had filed a contempt of court petition against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for appointing retired captain Shujaat Azim as Advisor on Aviation despite the fact that he was court-martialed and has dual citizenship.
Azim was earlier appointed as Advisor to prime Minister on Aviation however, he tendered resign in pursuance of the apex court directives but later on he was again appointed on a new slot of Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Aviation. Resuming the hearing of the matter on Friday, a three-member bench led by the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali asked: “how a person was reappointed against a slot from where he was removed earlier?”
During the course of hearing, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Salman Aslam Butt sought more time to file a reply as to whether Shujat Azeem has any role in the privatisation of national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Butt assured the court in personal capacity that until he submits a reply, Azim will not exercise his powers to play any role in privatisation of the PIA. Later, the court summoned Azim in person and adjourned the hearing of case till January 11, 2016.
