LAHORE: Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board, Shaharyar M Khan said on Monday that Pakistan Super League would benefit country’s cricket in a big way by strengthening different tiers of the game.
“It is going to be a gateway as far promotion of Pakistan cricket is concerned, no matter it is T20, one day or test cricket,” he said while speaking at players Draft ceremony of Pakistan Super League here at National Cricket Academy.
Chairman PCB said participation of young national cricketers in PSL would help them to bring overall improvement in various departments of the game including batting, bowling, fielding as well as fitness.
“With Pak player’s participation the main character of cricket which is team spirit will also be developed among them which will help them to learn a better understanding to serve their country by utilizing their talent and energy,” he added.
He said when five teams of the PSL would make their mark in the competition it would serve as an effective medium for the young players to learn cricket amid tough competition and then the Pakistani players would use the similar experience to serve their respective national teams in different versions of the game in a more professional way with a better sense of competition.
Chairman PCB said the PSL would be a profit earning venture for PCB in years to come and the funds generated from it would be spent on cricket development across the country. “With five Pak teams playing in PSL the span of cricket activities will get a tremendous boost in Pakistan and the base of the game will also be strengthened,” he said.
He said at the moment international cricket activities were not taking place in Pakistan and PSL would play a key role in the resumption of international cricket in the country.
“We are holding the inaugural edition at UAE and eventually a stage will come when we would be able to organize it in our own backyard giving a positive message to the world that Pakistan is safe to stage elite cricket events,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan Cricket captain, Wasim Akram said that PSL will be a successful elite cricket event.
“It is going to be the most important cricket event of Pakistan in last one decade and it is going to be a successful event”, he told media after players draft ceremony at national cricket academy.
He said he was upbeat as far holding of the league was concerned as a galaxy of stars were part of all the five teams in different roles and their presence will help the young Pakistani cricketers to learn the finer points of the game.
“Age is not important in such thrilling league what matters is the individual performance of a player”, said the former swing king.
“World best cricket talent has been picked to be a part of all the participating teams which shows the importance of the league”, he said adding “All the foreign players who are drawn in the team remained in constant touch with each other on different stages of the league which proves that PSL is a important cricket event”.
