Govinda, who is usually known for comedy roles, had to jump into action in real life, when in 2008 he slapped a fan during the shoot of his movie.
Govinda’s fan had submitted a petition in court against the incident and after hearing the case, the Supreme Court has ordered Govinda to tender an apology to the fan or faces a jail term of 2 years.
According to Indian media reports, The Supreme Court on Monday asked Bollywood actor Govinda to apologise to a fan.
The court said the actor will otherwise face prosecution for criminal intimidation and assault that may land him in jail for two years.
“We also like watching his movies. He is a big actor. When you make a mistake you should have a heart to admit it.
You should ask him (the complainant) to forgive and forget,” a justice TS Thakur and V Gopala Gowda told Govinda’s counsel.
According to a report by Times Now, responding to the judgement passed, Govinda said he was surprised that the complainant had dragged the case on for so many years.
He also wondered at the possibility of someone having backed the complainant. He further clarified that he had not intimidated anyone, nor had he legally challenged the man. He asserted that he was only trying to teach him a lesson.
