In view of the fact that influenza in general is being increasingly registered among the people of the metropolis therefore all necessary measures are being taken to prevent aggravation of the ailment into any serious or fatal stage.
Officials associated with Karachi Health Services told APP that concerted efforts are underway to sensitize people about severe stage of the influenza that may assume the state of bird or swine flu.
“Idea is not to create scare but raise their level of awareness and understanding about the health condition and its manifestation,”they said.
Symptoms as cough, body ache, sore throat, vomiting, running nose as registered in case of general influenza if turns severe and manifested in form of blood in sputum, persistent high grade fever, acute chest pain, steady decline in blood pressure, confusion or sudden cognitive or behavioral changes, difficulty in breathing, skin turning bluish must not be ignored.
People are also being informed that prevention of the ailment is mainly related to proper care of hygiene and hygienic practices that also include careful handling of birds and other foreign objects.
This is equally applicable for healthy individuals as well as all those already suffering from flu.
Those already inflicted with influenza have been advised to drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of sleep, manage their stress, do not get close to people already sick, refrain from touching surface that may have the virus and also to avoid crowded areas.
Provincial health department authorities have also directed hospital administrators to keep intact all arrangements for immediate assessment of people reporting with influenza and to also ensure isolation facilities for patients in need.
Official responding to a query said till date no swine flu or bird flu case has been reported from the metropolis or from any part of the province itself and that there are also little chances for it due to changes in the weather condition and growing day time temperatures.
