He expressed these views while addressing a award distribution ceremony among male and female position holder students in Matric and Intermediate annual examinations 2015.
The chief minister said that rewards worth one billion rupees have so far been distributed among the male and female position holder students, however scholarships were being provided to 100,000 deserving students through the funds of Punjab Endowment Fund, adding that number of scholarship would be doubled to 200,000 to the students in next year.
He said that the students of Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtoon Khwah, Balochistan, Sindh and Federal Board Islamabad were also included in the Punjab government’s education programmes which would promote unity, brotherhood and provincial coordination among people.
Shahbaz Sharif said that some leaders of a dictator’s era have looted the country, plundered the wealth of the people in the name of development projects and write off their bank loans on political grounds.
He added that the PML-N Punjab government had promoted corruption free culture by ensuring merit and transparency while no one can accuse the PML-N for corruption of a single penny.
He said that the government had provided 400,000 laptops to the students on merit base besides setting up IT Labs in order to promote Information Technology in the province.
The chief minister distributed awards of worth 180.5 million rupees among students. A smart contingent of police presented guard of honour to the students on this occasion.
Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Dr Farrukh Javed, members of national and provincial assembly, educational experts, columnists, vice chancellors of universities, large number of students and teachers were present.
