WEB DESK: A train company which was deciding to close operation at a remote station at northern Japan, decided to continue when it realized that its only passenger was a school girl, who took the train to her high school every day.
The passenger is a schoolgirl who catches the train from the remote Kami-Shirataki station at 7.04am every day to get to class in time, and returns promptly at 5.08pm.
The operator of the line, the Hokkaido Railway Co, has been praised for its commitment to its customers, after China’s CCTV news ran a story on it recently.
The station will now be kept open for her until she graduates from high school this March. It is scheduled to close for good on March 26.
