Punjab’s Superintendent of Police Salwinder Singh on Monday reached the NIA headquarters after being summoned here by the federal anti-terror agency.
Salwinder reached the NIA headquarters at 10.45am and his questioning is on at the moment. He didn’t say anything while entering the NIA headquarters.
Singh had been summoned by the NIA on Friday to appear before it for detailed interrogation as there were some discrepancies in his statement to NIA and Punjab Police. According to sources, he will be asked to take a lie-detector test.
Singh, at present an assistant commandant of 75th battalion of Punjab Armed Police, has claimed that he along with two companions – a jeweler, Rajesh Verma and cook-cum-helper Madan Gopal – was abducted by terrorists involved in Pathankot attack on the intervening night of Decermber 31 and January 1.
Singh was recently shunted as SP (headquarters) of Gurdaspur following allegation of breach of discipline.
NIA officials say Singh is yet to clarify why he keeps four mobile numbers? Why his helper Madan Gopal had two mobile phones? Why Madan Gopal and Rajesh Verma visited the shrine on the same day as when the terrorists abducted them?
The agency is also probing whether Singh has any linkages with drug cartels that operate in the Gurdaspur-Pathankot belt.
The NIA has registered three cases in connection with the terror strike at Pathankot IAF base.
The first case pertains to Salwinder Singh’s abduction and the second for the killing of the taxi driver. Both the cases were registered at Narot Jaimal Singh Police Station in Pathankot district.
The third and the main case, registered at Police Station Division No. 2 Pathankot, relates to the terrorist attack on the Air Force Station.
