WEB DESK: Security situation in Islamabad and other parts of Pakistan, particularly Karachi, was quite satisfactory in 2015. Only one terrorist incident happened in the federal capital on February 18 in which Qasar-e-Sakina Imambargah located at Expressway was targeted. In Islamabad, over 500 search operations were carried out against militant elements during which 190kg of explosive material and huge cache of weapons were recovered by the security forces.

The security of Islamabad was tightened after the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP). Recorder reporter from Karachi adds: The incidents of terrorism, kidnapping for ransom and murder declined significantly in Sindh in 2015. Additional Inspector General (AIG), Operations, Sindh, Ghiyasuddin Rashidi, while submitting an annual police performance report to Inspector General (IG), Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali, said some 12,235 criminals were arrested and 753 others were killed in 3,286 encounters conducted in various parts of the province, including Karachi, in 2015.
The report stated that the menace of heinous crimes such as targeted killing, extortion, kidnapping and murder drastically reduced because of concrete efforts made by the police along with other law enforcers. Some 20 LMGs, 11G3, 380 SMGs/Kalashnikovs, 9089 pistols/revolvers, 295 rifles 964 short guns/repeaters, were seized during the course of actions throughout the year. Besides, around 526kg explosive material, six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 32 suicide jackets, 688 bomb/hand grenades and 762 awan bombs//ball bombs were also recovered from the possessions of the criminals.
As many as 90 police officers and jawans lost their lives fighting against criminals/terrorists in different cities of the province. 67 personnel were killed in Karachi, two in Hyderabad, six in Mirpur Khas, four in Benazirabad, two in Sukhar, while nine policemen were killed in Larkana. It many be mentioned here that the Sindh Rangers in its yearly performance report released last week disclosed that some 4,074 suspects were apprehended in 2,410 operations conducted in various parts of the metropolis.
The report said some 2,198 accused, including 887 terrorists, 268 targeted killers, 97 extortionists and some 49 kidnappers were also arrested and handed over to the police. 169 notorious terrorists were also killed in 69 encounters. 12 Rangers personnel lost their lives, whereas 20 received injuries during the course of actions. The report added that the paramilitary troops recovered 2,765 weapons of different kinds, including machineguns, RPG7, rocket launchers, kalashnikovs, G3, hand grenades, and awan bombs.
