ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Friday said a process is underway for upgradation and commercial operations of Pakistan Locomotive Factory Risalpur on joint venture basis with private sector participation.
“Pakistan requires 500 locomotives to meet anticipated freight and passenger traffic during the next ten years,” he said while replying to questions in the Senate.
He said with this in view many companies of the world were ready to enter into cooperation with Pakistan for assembly and manufacturing of locomotives and other activities.
Khawaja Saad Rafique said the process of induction of new locomotives had been started and an order for 55 high horsepower had been placed on General Electric of the USA.
Minister for Interior Nisar Ali Khan told the House in a written reply that so far over 182000 manual arms licenses had been computerized.
The chairman informed the House that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will make a policy statement on the state of the economy in the Senate next week.
On a point raised by Babar Awan, the Chairman asked the government to clarify the situation on Monday regarding non-payment of salary and regularization of contract teachers of Islamabad.
The House will now meet on Monday at two p.m.
