ISLAMABAD: Pakistan national cricket team coach Waqar Younis has backed Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif’s comeback in international cricket.
Talking to a private news channel he said that both the players should not be treated any differently from the rehabilitated Mohammad Aamir.
“If Butt and Asif perform well in their comeback in domestic cricket they would get a second chance to play international cricket, he said.
Younis told Butt scored a hundred in his first competitive match in five-and-a-half years on Sunday in the national one-day championship while Asif took two wickets to leave an impact on the same day.
Replying to a question Younis said he just felt it was time to move on adding, “we had cut their hands by banning them from all forms of cricket for five years and it was a strong punishment for what they did”.
It would also improve Pakistan cricket competition level as there has never been any doubt about their cricketing abilities,” he added.
