ISLAMABAD: Talented opening batsman Ahmed Shahzad believes he should have been selected in the Asia Cup and World Twenty20 squad if performance was the only criteria for selection, expressing confidence of staging a comeback.
Ahmed said his best wishes were with all those players who have been selected for the Asia Cup and WT20 squad. “I don’t understand the reason behind dropping an established player after a bad performance in one or two series,” he said.
He said as far as performances are concerned, I have performed very well in the last 3 and a half years. “If performance was the only criteria then I should have been selected. But anyhow, my job as a player is to perform on the field and also to enjoy my cricket which is under my control,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
He said a player’s form can be sometimes good or bad but ability is always consistent. “I am not disappointed, I am very much satisfied with my performances,” he said.
He said he will be watching the Asia Cup and World T20 matches with great interest. “The team has been selected as per what was asked (by the management and captain) and I wish good luck to them,” he said.
“I am still young and have hit 10 international centuries which is a great achievement, and I will be back very soon.”
Speaking about the Pakistan Super League, Ahmed said the talent on display was brilliant at the PSL. “The quality of fielding was excellent with hardly any lapses,” he said.
“The team management for all teams was brilliant and we did not hear of any issues raised by players about money or any sort of misbehavior by the owners.”
“We (Quetta Gladiators) are not disappointed by the end result. Nobody had high expectations with Quetta team but we played brilliant cricket. It showed what can be achieved when players are given confidence,” he said adding it was an achievement for us to play the final.
