KARACHI: The 41st edition of Jubilee Insurance National Snooker Championship explode into action here at the Movenpick Hotel Shopping Arcade on Feb 15.
“A record number of 51 cueists representing nook and corner of the country would be in action for the honours,” Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), President Alamgir Shaikh told a press conference at Banquet Hall of Karachi Gymkhana.
Managing Director Jubilee Insurance Life Tahir Ahmed, PBSA Secretary Munawar Shaikh, President KG Fawad Malik, Abbas Valika and Naveed Kapadia were also present on the occasion.
An enhanced overall prize money of Rs 272,000 will be at the offer. The winner will get Rs 100,000 and runner-up will grab Rs 50,000.
As usual players will be divided into eight groups. After the best of seven frames round robin league activity, top two players from each group will progress in last-16 stage.
The major significant of the event that the winner and runner-up will be representing Pakistan be in the 32nd Asian Snooker Championship schedule to be held in Doha (Qatar) from April 15-23.
Besides the top players, the winner and runner-up of National Under-18 and three top cueists of National Under-21 Championship would be eligible to appear in the championship.
Reigning Asian Champion Hamza Akbar will be defending his title in 13-day competition.
Former World Amateur Champion Muhammad Asif has been top seeded for the event while Muhammad Sajjad, who finished runner-up in last world championship will be seeded number two.
Other seeded players included Muhammad Bilal (3), Shahram Changezi (40), Muhammad Majid Ali (5), Babar Masihn (6), Shahid Aftab (7) and Sharjeel Mahmood (8).
