CHITRAL: Pakistan Army and Scouts Sunday recovered the bodies of a 9th grade student and a passerby while seven other students of 9th and 10 grade were among nine persons trapped in an avalanche in Susoom village of Karimabad, Police Control Chitral confirmed the incident.
An official of Police Control Chitral Fazaluddin disclosed that soon after the incident, the jawans of Pakistan Army and Scouts rushed to the site in Susoom village of Karimabad, where nine persons including eight students and a passerby were buried in the avalanche after they were returning home from school after appearing in their ongoing examination.
He disclosed that DSP Chitral Khalid Khan is currently present at the site of the incident and through wireless message, he informed that they have only recovered two bodies – one of a student and the other of a passerby through rescue operation jointly conducted by the jawans of Pakistan Army and Chitral Scouts.
The official also confirmed that the rescue operation was halted due to bad weather and heavy rain. Due to fear that more such incident of avalanches, the operation was stopped, the official confirmed.
The official further confirmed that Pakistan Army and Scouts launched operation soon after and recovered the bodies of a student of 9th grade Mubashir S/O Nouroz, residence of Susoom along with a passerby Rehmat S/O Adina, also from Susoom village, Karimabad.
When asked what time the rescue operation would start again, the official said that currently heavy rain continue that is why it has decided to stop the operation for some time to recover the other missing students.
He said that DPO Chitral Asif Iqbal Mohmand and Nazim Ali Murad were also present at the site of the incident.
