WEB DESK: Telling stories through pictures started in a city. The happy stories, the sad ones, the ones with love and ones with regret, the one with resentment and anger, all of these started when a man with a camera started asking random people their life stories.
The New York City and estimated 19 million of residents met Brandon Stanson on the roads of New York with a camera in his hand. He posted hundreds of stories about the locals and then went internationally to cover the stories of the people who did not have a voice or rather; people did not want it to be heard.
Being the apolitical himself, Brandon has refused to speak up about the recent political tug of war in US, until now. He wrote an open letter to a presidential candidate, Donald Trump, making clear of the point on why is he not supporting him in this election.
While some say that Trump is the rightful candidate for the president because of his specific views about a certain group of people, the other oppose him in the strongest. Brandon Stanson, being one of the opposed. On the issue of the Muslims being thrown out of the country and making a wall that separates Mexico from the US, Trump has made some very strong points.
“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine,” Trump said in a statement. “Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”
To this and many other similar statements, Brandon replied in his letter:
“I’ve watched you retweet racist images. I’ve watched you retweet racist lies. I’ve watched you take 48 hours to disavow white supremacy. I’ve watched you joyfully encourage violence, and promise to ‘pay the legal fees’ of those who commit violence on your behalf. I’ve watched you advocate the use of torture and the murder of terrorists’ families. I’ve watched you gleefully tell stories of executing Muslims with bullets dipped in pig blood. I’ve watched you compare refugees to ‘snakes,’ and claim that ‘Islam hates us.’”
Last year, he went on an international trip with the HONY’s team and made stories around the world. He also travelled Pakistan and did quite a few stories there. He said that based on his personal experience, he can easily oppose Trump’s allegations and point of views.
“I am a journalist, Mr. Trump. And over the last two years I have conducted extensive interviews with hundreds of Muslims, chosen at random, on the streets of Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan. I’ve also interviewed hundreds of Syrian and Iraqi refugees across seven different countries. And I can confirm— the hateful one is you.”, said Brandon Stanson.
Brandon Stanson’s open letter has been viral over the social media. With more than 800,000 shares and 1.6 million likes, Brandon’s letter is highly supported by many.
