ISLAMABAD: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong has said that capacity of Gwadar port is being increased and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will help realize Pakistan’s dream to become Asian Tiger.
In an interview with BBC radio, he said CPEC extends cooperation in areas of energy, infrastructure, development of Gwadar Port, and industrial collaboration.
He said eight major power projects are under construction in this framework of cooperation which would certainly help to overcome energy shortage in Pakistan.
The ambassador said up gradation of Karakorum Highway, construction of Lahore-Karachi Motorway, and fiber cable linkage is the key projects being undertaken under CPEC.
Sun Weidong said CPEC is beneficial not only for China and Pakistan but for the whole region in terms of economic development and connectivity. He said China is the largest country in terms of foreign investment in Pakistan.
He said China and Pakistan are also extending their cooperation in peace and reconciliatory process in Afghanistan.
The ambassador said both the countries also enjoyed very good military-to- military relations in counter-terrorism.
He appreciated Pakistan for its successful efforts in fighting terrorism. He urged the international community to acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism and extend full cooperation to completely eliminate this menace.- APP
