LONDON: The England and Wales Cricket Board says struggling batsman Nick Compton is being given a break from the sport after being challenged “physically and mentally.”
Compton, who turns 33 on Sunday, amassed only 51 runs in three recent tests against Sri Lanka and his place in the team for the upcoming Pakistan series appeared in doubt.
The ECB says “following a challenging start to the 2016 season, both physically and mentally, it has been agreed that the best way forward is for Compton to spend some time away from the game.”
Compton has also been sort of form for his county side, Middlesex. Angus Fraser, managing director of cricket at Middlesex, says “we all believe that some time away from the game now will allow him to refresh, recharge.” -AP
