Muttahida Qaumi Movement has announced that Wednesday will be a Day of Protest against “siege” of the house of its leader Dr Farooq Sattar by Rangers in Sindh.
The MQM has appealed to people to shut down their businesses and transport to register their peaceful protest against the Rangers action. Aaj News reported that MQM in a statement called for a peaceful protest on Wednesday.
A large number of paramilitary troops surrounded the house of senior parliamentarian and leader of MQM Dr Farooq Sattar on Tuesday as part of an operation aimed at arresting the party’s Sindh Assembly Member Kamran Farooqui, according to Aaj News.
Quoting unnamed sources in the Sindh Rangers, Aaj News said the raid was part of an operation carried out after fulfilling all legal requirements.
Rangers said a letter was written to the Sindh Assembly Speaker, informing him that the MPA was wanted in an investigation.
As many as 30 paramilitary troops barricaded three streets around the house located in the Pir Ilahi Bakhsh (PIB) Colony of the metropolis.
However, Sattar, who was present inside his residence, told Aaj News by telephone that there was no criminal present in his house.
“I am unable to contact the Director General Rangers, I have sent him a message,” said Farooq Sattar, adding that the Rangers surrounded his house for more than an hour before they left the area. –Business Recorder
