Opposition parties have decided to introduce “Panama Papers (Inquiry and Trial) Bill, 2016” in the Parliament to facilitate the investigation of Panama Leaks.
The opposition parties have also decided to move resolutions on Panama Papers in Sindh Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly.
This decision has been made in a joint meeting of the opposition parties held in Islamabad on Tuesday evening.
The representatives of opposition parties participated in the meeting. After meeting, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi while talking to media said that the opposition decided to present a joint bill for Terms of Reference (ToRs ) for investigation of Panama Papers.
He said that all opposition parties unanimously decided to introduce legislation on Panama Papers in the Parliament.
He said that the opposition parties would also present resolutions in Sindh Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly against Panama Leaks.
PTI leader said that the PML-N government is not serious to investigate the issue of Panama Papers. He said that we took all opposition parties into confidence on the proposed legislation.
He said that we also briefed the opposition parties about the eight meetings with the PML-N government on ToRs.
He said that the opposition would raise the issue of Panama papers in the forthcoming session of the National Assembly.
He said that it the Bill is rejected in the National Assembly then it would be presented in the provincial assemblies.
Leader of Opposition in the Senate Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said that the attitude of government team with opposition on ToRs is opposite from the attitude of the Prime Minister. He said that the PML-N government did no show flexibility on ToRs. He said that there should be rule of law in the country.
He said that the opposition would launch movement against the government if it opposes the Bill in the parliament.
According to the sources, the Opposition parties also decided to constitute an Action Committee which would formulate a joint strategy against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government on Panama Papers.
They said that the opposition parties also discussed the option in the meeting to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan for investigation of Panama Papers.
They said that Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and Balochistan National Party Awami have presented proposal to resign from the National and Provincial Assemblies and Senate in protest on Panama Papers.
The sources said that Awami National Party (ANP) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) did not support the resignation of the Prime Minister on Panama Papers.
They said that the joint meeting of the opposition parties also unanimously approved a resolution against the violation of human rights and killing of Kashmiri people in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
It was said in the resolution that the government should summon Indian High Commissioner in Foreign Office and to lodge protest against the killing of Kashmiri people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The opposition parties also urged the government to direct the Pakistani diplomats to raise the issue of Kashmir at international forums. -Business Recorder
