The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday summoned Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai on September 1 over his controversial statement through which he termed the deadly terrorist incident in Quetta the result of intelligence failure.
A former presidential candidate Waheed Kamal filed a petition with the Election Commission seeking disqualification of Mahmood Khan Achakzai over his statement that he made on the floor of National Assembly recently.
The Commission issued notice to Achakzai after hearing a petition against him. The petitioner argued that Achakzai tried to malign the security forces.
Under Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan, no blame can be levied against the Armed Forces while Achakzai tried to do so in the National Assembly in violation of Article 19.
The petition maintained that Achakzai had earlier declared KPK as a province of Afghanistan which was against the Constitution. Therefore, Achakzai be declared disqualified under Article 63 of the Constitution. -Business Recorder
