KARACHI: The underground water level in Karachi has declined from 600 feet to 1,200 feet in last three years that may cause shortage of water in future.
This was stated by Project Manager of Bore & Bore Company Hydrogeologist, Israr Hussain while taking to APP here on Monday.
Hussain said that his company has conducted survey of industrial areas of the city.
“Due to increasing number of industrial establishments in SITE and Korangi and increased consumption of underground water by these industries and lesser rains are the cause of decline in underground water level” he said.
He maintained that government must take alternate measures as wide spread use and depletion of underground water can cause serious problems .
Hussain informed that the Bore & Bore Company along with Engro is working on Thar Coal field. The underground water level in Tharparkar is 600 to 700 feet.
“There is enough quantity of water available in Thar, which can be supplied to its surrounding areas as well”, he added.—APP
