ISLAMABAD: A five member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa today continued hearing of Panama Papers case, Aaj News reported.
The counsel said he is not accusing the petitioners of forgery but submitting unverified documents is a reckless disregard to the court.
In his remarks, Justice Ejaz Afzal said when documents are relied upon by a party, it is its duty to prove the custody of them as well.
He said the stories filed by the German media and the BBC carry nothing new.
The counsel said that his client is not a beneficial owner of London flats but only a trustee. He said Maryam Nawaz files her tax returns mentioning the details of the properties she owns in the country.
Shahid Hamid will continue his arguments tomorrow.
Later talking to media persons, Minister for Railways Saad Rafique said there is no seriousness in politics of Imran Khan who is in a state of confusion.
In his remarks, Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif said that the Prime Minister will come out victorious in the Panama case.
In last hearing, Taufiq Asif, the counsel of Jamaat-e-Islami concluded his arguments in today’s hearing.
While presenting arguments, JI lawyers talked about the Zafar Ali Shah case. “The decision [in the Zafar Ali Shah case] had said that the London flats belong to the Sharif family,” he said. On which, the bench reminded the lawyer that the decision reached in the Zafar Ali Shah case did not acknowledge Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s ownership of the London flats.
Asif further insisted that “I will establish that Khalid Anwar was the defending lawyer for Nawaz Sharif”.
The bench expressed anger, Justice Khosa remarked, “Tell us the court’s findings, do not tell us what the lawyer’s position was.”
