KARACHI: Release of Dr. Asim Hussain, former Petroleum Minister, was deferred Wednesday, as he could not submit his passport before the Sindh High Court.
Dr. Asim who was arrested in August 2015 was ordered to be released this morning by Sindh High Court, against surety bonds worth Rs.five million.
The accused was granted bail in two separate references filed against him by National Accountability Bureau, for having deprived the national exchequer of Rs. 462.5 billion between 2010 to 2013.
He was later this afternoon, was also released by Anti Terrorism Court in a case registered against him by para military forces for alleged treatment of terrorists in his hospitals at North Nazimabad and Clifton areas of Karachi.
Dr. Asim had reportedly, as per ATC orders, had deposited both his Pakistani and Canadian pass ports with it.
According to the lawyer of Asim Hussain, a request will be registered with SHC Thursday to forego the condition and the process of his client’s release be streamlined as per orders of the two courts.
Dr. Asim was also accused of money laundering besides defrauding public under pretext of running a charity hospital and also encroaching public land for extension of his two hospitals.—APP
