LAHORE: At least 10 suspected Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) militants were killed during an ‘encounter’ with the personnel of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Manawan area on Friday night, officials said.
According to a CTD spokesman, the militants of JuA including Anwar-ul-Haq, the handler of February 13 suicide attack at Chairing Cross, were killed in the encounter.
He said they had apprehended Anwar-ul-Haq days after the attack. The law enforcement agencies had also arrested his other accomplices after his information during the interrogation.
He said a team from Lahore was taking five arrested suspects, including Haq, to Manawan for seizing weapons and explosives when they were attacked near Ring Road by nine terrorists. During the exchange of fire, 10 terrorists were killed.
The CTD identified some of the deceased militants as Haq, Abdullah, Attaur Rehman, Imam Shah and Irfan Khan, he added.
Meanwhile, the sources said the CTD has registered a case in this regard to probe the matter.
At least 15 people were killed and more than 80 others were injured, including three Aaj TV personnel, in an explosion outside the Punjab Assembly when hundreds of chemists were protesting at The Mall.
DIG Traffic Ahmed Mubeen and SSP (Operations) Zahid Gondal were also among the martyrs.—Business Recorder
