KARACHI: PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi who was suspended from party’s membership following a controversial video leak on Tuesday withdrew his resignation from the Senate after a meeting with chairman Raza Rabbani, Aaj News reported.
According to sources, Hashmi had submitted his resignation from the Senate after a video surfaced last week in which he can be seen giving a controversial statement against judiciary and Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigating Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.
In the video, the senator put those on clear warning who were carrying out the investigation for allegedly grilling the PM’s family. In the wake of this event Hashmi’s membership was from party was cancelled immediately.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also took suo motu notice of Hashmi’s remarks and ordered to open a contempt of court case against Hashmi.
On Sunday, police had registered a case against Nehal Hashmi over charges of using threatening language against the judiciary, public servants and disrupting judicial proceedings.
Hashmi has submitted a written application seeking withdrawal of his resignation.
