Web Desk: We believe that the medicines prescribed by doctors can cure us and make us better. But in the present time, medical errors are one of the top killers.
Recently, in India one such incident was happened, where a 19-years-old boy shared what happened to his family.
Here is the copy of his blog.
Hello, My Name is Lavesh Mamodia (19). I am from Delhi. My father’s name is Pramod Mamodia.
I want to report an issue regarding a private hospital near my locality.
On April 3, he went to BM Gupta Hospital after complaining of chest pain. During ECG, it was found that, there is some issue in heart. Doctors at that hospital suggested that he gets an angiography done. My father was completely alright, but his reports indicated that he is undergoing something serious.
Since the hospital did not have the facility for angiography, we shifted to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, Janakpuri on April 5. Reports stated that his two arteries were completely blocked and one was blocked partially.
We asked the doctor, what next. He suggested that bypass surgery was the only option. I would like to repeat that my father was always healthy and never had a heart attack.
We discussed his reports with doctors in other hospitals and they all said that his condition was serious. Mata Chanan Devi hospital had shared the angiography CD with us. Since the process involves cutting a part of the body to insert a camera. We didn’t want him to suffer through it again so we showed the doctors the CD.
When everyone said that the bypass surgery is important, we were scared. We asked the doctors to suggest a day for the same. April 6, 3 pm was suggested.
On April 6, at 11 am, I got a call from the hospital asking for confirmation or else they would take up the next patient. They said that they would not be able to do the operation on Sunday and if we wanted the operation to be done on Monday or Tuesday, we would have to pay ICU charges for 2-3 days.
My father was not happy in the hospital and we wanted this to be over ASAP.
At 1 pm, we asked them to perform the surgery. We were told he operation is 100 percent safe, and 55 percent of my father’s heart was working (average is 60 percent).
On April 7, 9 am, they took papa into the operation theatre and asked us for the payment. We paid half the amount and they started the process. An average bypass surgery takes 6 hrs, so we waited.
At 2 pm they called my uncle and me, and said that the situation is critical. I asked the doctor that he said everything would be fine, then now this?
“We can’t tell everything from the report,” they said. “His heart is not performing the way we thought,” he added.
“Don’t worry about the money,” we said.
They then asked for payment, to which we said we would give by evening. At 4 pm, the surgeon called my mother and I and said that the situation is critical.
“We are trying our best,” he said.
At 7 pm we got a call saying that everything is fine. We were very happy and the entire family went home. My uncle, mother and I went to meet my father in the ICU, the doctors said that he is critical again and at 12.15 am they declared him dead.
I don’t remember what happened in the next one hour, I was unconscious. My uncle called the police. The postmortem was to be conducted the next day. However, it turned out to be a Sunday. They wanted us to wait for three days so we decided to take the FIR back. My mother has not spoken since the doctors pronounced my father dead.
On April 8, I performed his last rites.
I want to report this incident as the doctors indirectly forced us for the surgery. The issue could have been resolved with medicines. Doctors were lying to us from April 7. All they wanted was money. I don’t know what happened in the OT.
My father was completely alright. My papa was killed due to carelessness.
Our aim to spread awareness among people and ask them to stay alert of such instance.
