Web Desk: Mouez Hassen,Tunisia’s national goalkeeper, went down early in the second half of Tunisia’s games against both Portugal and Turkey coinciding with sunset, at the time when the Ramadan fasting ends.
His injury allowed his teammates to have a break and rush to the sideline to eat dates and drink water.
During their first match against Portugal, Hassen went down in the 58th-minute with an injury. Similarly, in their second match against Turkey, Hassen suddenly was seen lying flat on his back after a corner in the 49th-minute. Both of his injuries allowed his team-mates to leave the pitch for food and water. He stayed down for around a minute.
Tunisian sport reporters were the first to point out that Hassen’s injuries both coincided with sunset, which is when iftar.
A fellow footballer Chaker Alhadhur joked on Twitter, ‘It’s all right now, we know you were pretending.’
Responding to with, Hassen tweeted, ‘I was injured bruv,’ alongside laughing emojis.
Hassen is unlikely to face any subsequent punishment because proving the injury was not genuine is virtually impossible.
