Polling to elect National Assembly and four Provincial Assemblies has begun across the country, at 8:00 am. Four hundred and fifty thousand Police and three hundred and seventy thousand Army personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order today.
This is the first time that employees of other institutions have been made a part of electoral duty. Before this, only employees of educational institutions made a part of electoral duty. More than 6,000 teachers have been given election training from Federal Directorate.
It is also for the first time that women of Upper Dir have gained the power to cast their votes. Women’s queue could be seen outside the polling stations in constituencies of NA-5 and PK-12.
Personnel of Pakistan army are with presiding officers to ensure safe and sound electoral environment.
