LAHORE: A petition seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Ahsan Iqbal over his recent ‘anti-judiciary remarks’ was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The petition stated the former interior minister’s recent statement on the suspension of former premier Nawaz Sharif’s jail sentence falls within the ambit of the contempt of court.
It said a bench of the high court had earlier discharged a contempt of court notice against the former federal minister while instructing him to remain cautious in this regard in future, however, he ignored its instruction.
The petition pleads the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the PML-N leader.
Earlier this month, a Lahore High Court full bench had discharged a contempt of court notice issued to Ahsan Iqbal over an anti-judiciary speech after accepting his apology
