GUJRANWALA: A special court in Gujranwala on Saturday awarded 27-year jail sentence and fined Rs190000 to accused Abid in Ahsan Iqbal attack case.
The court also directed accused to pay a fine of Rs60000 to former interior minister whereas an additional three-year jail sentence was awarded over possession of illegal weapons.
The court also acquitted four other accused Shahid, Kashif, Azeem and Sabeel.
On May 6, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former interior minister Iqbal sustained bullets injuries on his right shoulder in a failed assassination attempt.
Gunman fired bullets at Iqbal during a corner meeting in Qasba Kanjrod area of Narowal.
District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Kishwar stated that the attacker used a 30-bore pistol and fired at Iqbal from a distance of around 20 yards.—NNI
