ISLAMABAD: Members of opposition parties in the Senate this afternoon while protesting the arrest of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif said his arrest by NAB is making the future of democracy questionable.
They said no one is against accountability but the way being adopted is not right.
Leader of Opposition in the Senate Raja Zafar ul Haq said the way Shahbaz Sharif was arrested is disturbing for not only PML-N but all democracy loving parties and other people.
Senator Javed Abbasi of PML-N said this is the second incident of arrest of leader of the opposition in National Assembly during the last forty years.
Senator Abdul Qayyum of the same party said this accountability process to us seems discriminate.
Senator Maulana Ata ur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam said ruling party is hurling threats against the opposition. He said opposition cannot be cowed down with aggressive behavior.
Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq said such steps are detrimental to democracy.
The Muslim League-N members participated in the house with black arm bands.
Newly elected senator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Dr. Shahzad Waseem took oath today.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani administered oath to him.
