Web Desk: It is a shocking medical case in which a mother died from a rare form of dementia years after catching the disease from her own baby while pregnant, reported Deccanchronicle.
The woman’s husband died of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease two decades ago. However, the unidentified woman, from Denmark, died of the same crippling disease as her husband while in her seventies.
Her son is known to be 53 and father himself, is now ‘showing symptoms’ of sporadic CJD.
According to doctors, the son inherited the mutation gene from his father, then he passed it to his mother while in the womb.
The toxic cells are thought to have traveled into her bloodstream, before lodging in her brain. This caused an irreversible brain damage, triggered by abnormal proteins known as prions, which gradually destroy brain cells.
The woman was diagnosed with sporadic CJD before the disorder was linked to her late husband or son.
