Fashion model Zara Abid passes away in PIA plane crash

Famous Pakistani model Zara Abid has passed away in Pakistan International Airline’s aircraft crash on Friday.   She was onboard the national carrier’s flight PK 8303, bound for Karachi, that crashed near the residential area in Karachi, on Friday.

Rumors of Zara’s fate started circulating immediately after the crash with some saying that she is amongst departed and others saying she has survived. However, it’s now been confirmed by the Sindh government that the ace model has departed from this world. A total of 2 passengers have survived the accident which claimed 97 lives.

Her colleagues from media fraternity have been pouring in tribute for her. Pakistani actor and model, Saba Qamar Zaman expressed her grief on Twitter:
“In these moments of loss, words are useless. I really cannot express the heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing of all those precious people who lost their lives in this traumatic incident yesterday. Fly high up there in heaven you all!”

Socialite and businesswoman Frieha Altaf paid a heartfelt tribute to the departed soul. She took it to Instagram to share her grief:

“Was hoping to get OFFICIAL news on Zara. My heart has been in my mouth since yesterday. The hurt is big. The tears flow.
Zara was not just a model, she was a strong independent woman who supported her family. She was trolled for her dark skin color & she embraced & fought the popular belief that “Fair is Beautiful”
She loved Music & i have fond memories of her at Salt Arts concert of my son @turhanjames with her fellow model & best Friend @abeerrizviofficial. May you Rest in Peace. May your family find solace. May you inspire & encourage other models to Love the Skin they are born with.”

Model and actress Kiran Malik also sent out an empathetic message via Instagram. She wrote in a post:

“Oh Zara! Still remember this one time we met and how kind you were, came to me and said such generous things making my heart happy… that’s how kind and beautiful you were! But today my heart hurts for what has happened to you and how brutally you’ve been taken away from us. Remembering you like this, a beautiful girl who shines when she smiles.. but God, I’m shattered .. Praying for you, your family to get strength.. this hits so close to home. Rest in Peace, love”

Yesterday, Ace makeup and hairstyle artist Ikram Gohar took to Instagram to share the news of her survival after rumors started circulating on social media that the model departed in the crash. “Zara Abid is alive, she is with usss…plzzz pray for her,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

However, the Sindh Health Department has so far confirmed only three survivors and Zara Abid isn’t among those.

According to the Frieha Altaf, the CEO of Catwalk, event management, and production company, Zara was working on a shoot in Karachi for Sana Safinaz, and Catwalk, however, went to Lahore after her uncle passed away a few days ago. Abid was on her way back to Karachi to continue her work.
Zara Abid was doing the show for @SanaSafinaz and @catwalk_cares. Her uncle passed away & she left for Lahore. I’m just sick to my stomach. This is so close to home. A huge tragedy for the Fashion industry. So many lives lost! Prayers #zaraabid.”

The media fraternity has been taken aback by the rumors of her demise with fellow actors sending heartfelt messages for her and the family.
Khadija Shah, the renowned Pakistani fashion designer, in a now-deleted tweet shared her thoughts and prayers for the fashion model:
“The fashion Industry lost Zara Abid in the plane crash today. She was a wonderful girl, hardworking, and professional. I was in awe of the energy and the dynamism in her photographs – May her soul RIP – so many people lost their loved ones today, may Allah have mercy on all of us.”
She later deleted that tweet and instead posted:

“Praying that she may be a survivor! There is news that there are survivors, may Allah keep all of them safe and she be one of them.”

Ertugrul lead actor Esra Bilgic took to Instagram to offer condolences amidst the uncertainty of the model’s fate. In her comment on Zara’s post, she wrote:

“I’m really sorry for being late to follow you back, Zara. All Pakistan, and Zara’s family, please accept my sincere condolences on your loss today. Rest in Peace.”
