ATC awards double life imprisonment to four in Perveen Rehman murder case

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Friday sentenced four accused to double life imprisonment in the murder case of social activist Parveen Rehman.

According to Geo News Ayaz Swati, Raheem Swati, Mohammad Amjad, and Ahmed Khan alias Pappu Kashmiri were sentenced to double life imprisonment after they were found guilty of her murder.

According to the details all the four accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment under the Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism act and also to life imprisonment for murder under Section 302.

Another accused, Imran Swati, was awarded a sentence of seven years for being a facilitator in Rehman's murder.

The court also issued a non-bailable arrest warrants of two absconders, Sholadad and Musa.

Renowned human rights activist and head of Orangi Pilot Project, Rehman was killed while she was on her way home from her office by assailants on the main road near the Banaras flyover on March 13, 2013.

Initially, a case of her murder was registered at Pirabad police station under sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Later, Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 was added to the First Information Report based on a judicial inquiry conducted by the then District and Sessions Judge (West) Ghulam Mustafa Memon. Supreme Court order.
