The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were ridiculed on social media after the royal couple issued a statement on their charity foundation, Archewell's website on Thursday to say they “stand with the people of Ukraine.”

“Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same,” read the statement.

Social media users believe that the royal couple’s statement was unwarranted and that they breached the royal rule by intervening in a political matter. According to the royal protocol, members of the royal family must strictly remain neutral on political issues.

“Harry and Meghan have condemned Russia and expressed support for the people of Ukraine from the safety of their £11million California mansion via a statement posted to their website,” said one user.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left UK severing all ties with the royal family, and moved to the US to settle down in California two years ago.

Their statement came after Russia had launched a full-scale military operation on Ukraine killing 137 civilians and military personnel.

Journalist Piers Morgan also reacted to the couple’s statement and said, “This will really rattle Putin.”

“It’s over for Putin now,” said TV host Darren Grimes.

Some users accused the Duke and Duchess for “making everything about themselves.”

But not everyone was against the royal couple’s statement against the Ukraine invasion.
