KARACHI: The Sindh High Court, while hearing the Dua Zahra case on Friday, ordered the restoration of bank accounts belonging to Zaheer Ahmed’s family members, including his brother Shabbir Ahmed.

Justice Iqbal Kalhoro headed the two-member bench that issued the order directing the State Bank and the Central Investigative Agency (CIA) to implement the order

Zaheer and his family had moved the court seeking restoration of their bank accounts and computerized national identity cards (CNICs) last Friday.

The court had ordered the authorities to block the CNICs and bank accounts of the accused over non-recovery of Dua Zahra.

Case background

The teenage girl was reported missing from her home in Karachi in mid April. She later surfaced in Bhawalnagar, married to 21-year-old Zaheer Ahmed. The two met on online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

The couple was presented in the Sindh High Court, which ruled that Dua Zehra was free to live with whoever she wants before sending her to a shelter home.

The father of the teenage girl then approached Supreme Court and challenged the SHC’s verdict in the case.

The apex court wrapped up case after the father withdrew the petition filed in the apex court challenging the Sindh High Court (SHC’s) decision.

The top court, in its verdict, asked Mehdi Kazmi to approach the relevant forum.
