  • PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was arrested by the Islamabad police “in accordance with the law” on charges of sedition and inciting the public against the state institutions, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday. The PTI described the incident as an “abduction”, not an “arrest”.

  • Former information minister Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that Gill was “abducted from the Banigala Chowk (roundabout) by men travelling in vehicles without number plates”. The party has decided to file a case against the development.

  • The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority has warned all the satellite TV channels, specifically news and current affairs of legal action for either running a “propaganda” campaign or spreading “misinformation and disinformation” against the state institutions.

  • Pakistani Consul General in Spain Salman Mirza has been sacked from his service after being proven guilty of harassing a woman in the consular office. The survivor had sent an application to Ambassador Shujaat Rathore, who after completing the inquiry had sent a report to Pakistan.

  • Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser has decided to move the Peshawar High Court against the Federal Investigation Agency’s notice. The agency summoned the former NA speaker on August 11 (tomorrow).

  • At least 352 cases of coronavirus were reported over the last 24 hours, the National Institute of Health said in a tweet. The Covid positivity ratio was clocked in at 2.64%.

  • Muharram 10 processions were taken out across the country. Around 7,000 processions and over 50,000 ‘majaalis’ took place across Pakistan, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said in a press conference. Over 16,000 rangers performed their duties during Muharram across the country.

  • Another monsoon spell was ready to hit already pummeled Balochistan province from August 10 (today) to 13th. The Met Office said that flash flooding was expected in Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Mosa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Panjgur, Pasni, Jiwani, Ormara, Gwadar and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan during the forecast period.

  • Three people were killed and dozens wounded on Tuesday, the Palestinian health ministry said, as Israeli forces raided the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. The Israeli military said a senior militant commander was among the dead.

  • US President Joe Biden has signed a landmark bill to provide $52.7 billion in subsidies for US semiconductor production and research and to boost efforts to make the United States more competitive with China’s science and technology efforts.
