Internet outages reported in different cities, PTA monitoring situation

PTCL says optical fibre network experiencing some technical faults due to heavy rains, floods

Internet services faced disruptions in different cities of the country on Friday as data network users of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited could not see stories scrolling up their mobile screens.

“As reported by PTCL, issue has been reported in data networks between South and North which is causing internet connectivity issues,” the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said in a tweet.

Sources said internet users were reported to have connectivity issues in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.

"This issue is being investigated. PTA is monitoring the situation and further updates will be shared," it added.

PTCL teams working to ‘restore services’

The PTCL said that its optical fibre network was experiencing some technical faults due to heavy rains and floods. “As a result, PTCL users in northern and central regions are facing Internet outages. Our teams are working to restore the services on priority,” it said in a statement.

PTCL was among the top trends on Twitter.

This user urged the people to raise their hands if they were facing internet issues.

This one claimed that storm fibre was also down.

The PTA said on Thursday said that the internet service was suspended in different Balochistan districts because of the flood situation.

“Due to multiple fibre cuts, voice and data services in Kech, Panjgoor, Gwadar and adjoining areas have been impacted. Services of three cellular mobile operators (Telenor, Zong & Ufone) and PTCL have been affected due to flash floods and rain,” it said.

The authority said that restoration work was underway and it was working with the operators concerned for early restoration of affected communication channels.
