Old transport fare list reviles, protest continued

ISLAMABAD : Protest continues as the administration has cancelled the new transport fares list and reviles the old transport fares list, Aaj News reported on Thursday.

According to the channel, dozens of police personals and a student injured during a clash between protesters and police at Murree Road Barakahu near Islamabad.

According to the details, trader, students and local residents of Barakahu stage a protest demonstration against the recent hike in public transport fares by the Regional Transport Authority and blocked the Murree Road at 11: 00am.

Heavy contingent of police reached at the scene to control the situation. Clash erupted when police fired shells of tear gas to disperse the protesters in which a student of intermediate got injured.

Upon the student injury angry protesters attacked the police personals injuring dozens of police cops including SHO.

Capital administration called rangers to control the situation but failed to disperse the protesters so far. Protesters are demanding suspension of Barakahu police officials and also bring down the recently increased public transport fares.

Dozen of protesters were arrested who according to Deputy Commissioner Amir Ali have been released.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mehmood Peerzada has ordered judicial inquiry into the incident and directed to submit the report in next 24 hours.

Interior Minister Rehman A Malik also took notice of the incident and also directed the Capital administration to submit the report in next 24 hours.
