People are calling out Priyanka Chopra for speaking about #GeorgeFloyd and not minorities in India

Right after a video of George Floyd's, a 46-years-old African American, surfaced on the internet, extrajudicial murder at the hands of police surfaced on the internet, huge protests erupted across the United States of America. In this video, a white police officer kept his knee pressed onto Floyd's neck for several minutes even when he was shouting that he can't breathe.

While the whole of America seems outraged over the incidence with #Blacklivesmatter trending worldwide, celebrities, too, have lent their voice for the cause with likes of Tylor Swift, Will Smith, and Beyonce asking honoring the memory of Floyd.

Former Miss World, and former UN Goodwill Ambassador, Priyanka Chopra, also took to Instagram to call for action against racism and police brutality in the US. In her post, she wrote:

"There is so much work to be done and it needs to starts at an individual level on a global scale. We all have a responsibility to educate ourselves and end this hate. End this race war here in the US, and around the world. Wherever you live, whatever your circumstances, NO ONE deserves to die, especially at the hands of another because of their skin color. ?"

The Bollywood actor continued the post saying, "On May 25th, George Floyd was pinned down by the neck by a Minneapolis police officer and died. He laid there, fighting for his life, struggling to breathe, and other officers just stood there and watched. The officer has now been charged with murder.?
???George, I am praying for your family.
???Text “FLOYD” to 55156 and sign the petition. ???
#JusticeForGeorgeFloyd"

While her sentiments for Floyd are appreciated and needed, Twitter can't get over the fact that they might be coming out of a place of pure opportunism. A Twitter profile by the name of "Revolutionary Memes for Bahujan Teens" called her out for staying mum about the Bahujan movement.

In a series of tweets, the user noted: "Priyanka Chopra is an epitome of opportunism and cowardice. In her recent Insta post, she appeals to people to end race war in the US and educate themselves on the race issues. She says no one deserves to die because of their skin color. She stands in support of George Floyd's family. The last time I checked Priyanka still holds Indian Passport. What makes her comment on the African-American struggle but not on the Bahujan movement? Where does the empathy and support of Priyanka and US migrate Savarnas go when it comes Bahujan resistance movement?"

They further added that "Priyanka didn't raise voice on the Delhi pogrom, Akhlaq lynching, Rohit Vemula murder, Najeeb Ahmed etc. The only reason the likes of Priyanka show support to Afro-American struggle in the US is cause they know it opens up opportunities for them in US liberal spaces."

Journalist and Executive Editor of NDTV, Nidhi Razdan, also called out Bollywood celebrities for not speaking about the sorry state of affairs in their own country. In a Tweet, she wrote:

"Interesting to see “woke” celebrities in India speak out against police atrocities and George Floyd’s death all the way across in America, but the same celebs lose their voice when there are police excesses at home; when people are lynched, communities targeted."

Another Twitter user accused Priyanka of hypocrisy and selective activism:

This isn't the first time Mrs. Jonas has been accused of highlighting a selective narrative. Last year she was criticized for gaslighting a young Pakistani activist for questioning her over her pro-war stance.

In our opinion, Priyanka has every right to speak for George Floyd but she also has a responsibility, as a Goodwill Ambassador, to speak about atrocities against Indian minorities.
