Khalil Ur Rehman dismisses rape allegations by Cynthia Ritchie, calls it drama

Writer and director Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar has been in and out of the news these past few months, and all for the wrong reasons. He's been severely criticized for his views on feminism, woman's agency, and #metoo. Qamar has always accused feminist movements in Pakistan for the moral down gradation of society.

Yesterday, Qamar made comments about #meetoo movement yet again - after Cyntia Dawn Ritchie, a US citizen currently residing and working in Pakistan, accused senior Pakistani politicians of raping her in 2011, while she was drugged. Qamar took to Twitter to share his two cents:

"Stop this Me 2 tamasha (drama) Ms @CynthiaDRitchie. If u were raped some 9 years ago what makes u disclose it today ? Do u feel pregnant now ???"

Ms Ritchie made these allegations on Friday and said that she is willing to meet "any and all investigators" to proceed with the case. She also mentioned that she told someone at the US embassy immediately, however, due to fluid relations between Pakistan and the US, they did nothing.

"And, yes, I did tell someone at the US Embassy in 2011, but due to 'fluid' situation and 'complex' relations between the US and Pakistan, the response was less than adequate. I've been engaged to a wonderful man who I met in Pakistan. He encouraged me to speak out, so we can move on as a couple."
