In the last one month, from 14th May to 14th June, Pakistan has seen an astonishing 242% rise in fatality rate due to COVID-19. Asad Umar, the Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives shared this alarming fact via Twitter yesterday.

Total cumulative deaths due to COVID-19 on 14th May in Pakistan were 770 and on 14th June this figure rose to 2632. While in India, the total cumulative deaths until 14th May were 2,649 and in the next one month, it rose to 9,485.

This means that in just 1 month, Pakistan saw a 242% increase in death rate while India saw a 258% rise.

The planning Minister also stated in his tweet that:

"There is much we are still learning about COVID-19 spread and mortality."

These shocking numbers speak volumes regarding the gravity of the situation. Currently, Pakistan has 144,478 COVID cases in the country and 2,729 deaths have occurred due to the viral disease. Experts believe that we're still at the beginning of the crisis.

Umar who's also heading the National Command and Operation Centre against COVID-19, held a presser yesterday in which he issued a clear warning regarding the current trajectory of the spread of viral disease in Pakistan. He said that the confirmed cases of the COVID could double by the end of this month and reach 1 million - 1.2 million by the end of July. So we must follow SOP's of government and wear masks when going in public.
